Matildas’ two-match Aussie homecoming confirmed

The Matildas’ Australian homecoming has been confirmed, with the side to play two matches against Chinese Taipai in December.
The first match will be at AAMI Park in Melbourne on December 4, and then in Geelong three days later on December 7.
It will be the first time in seven years the Tillies have played in Geelong, and their first match at AAMI Park since the FIFA Women’s World Cup last year.

“Victorians are equally as passionate about football at the grassroots level as they are in their support of our national teams as evidenced by their continual strong turnout for home games,” Football Australia chief executive James Johnson said.
“Pleasingly the two-match series will also travel beyond the city to give fans who may not usually get the chance an opportunity to see their beloved Matildas.

“Playing in regional areas is important for us particularly with players like Kyra Cooney-Cross, Clare Hunt and Ellie Carpenter showing what is possible for kids playing the game from non-metropolitan centres to make it to the highest levels.”
The two matches will be the Matildas’ first matches in Australia since the departure of former coach Tony Gustavsson, whose contract wasn’t renewed on mutual agreement after the Matildas’ exit from the Olympics in the group stage.
The last time the two teams met was in Perth last November in an Olympic qualifier. Australia won 3-0.
A new coach has not yet been announced.
The Matildas’ next match is against Germany in the early hours of October 29 (AEDT).
